SOUND MEDITATION

Sound has been and is used in many cultures for thousands of years as a tool for healing. From mantras as with the Hindis, the Icaros (medicine melodies) of many Indigenous people from Central and South America, or Pythagoras' use of interval and frequency, these cultural practices may contain part of a similar intention: to move participants from a place of imbalance to a place of balance. Sound is also a core component of Expressive Art Therapy.

Sound Meditation can help to facilitate shifts in brainwave states by using entrainment. Entrainment synchronizes fluctuating brainwaves by providing a stable frequency which the brainwave can attune to. By using rhythm and frequency, we can entrain our brainwaves and it then becomes possible to down-shift our waking beta state  (waking consciousness) to alpha (relaxed consciousness), and even reach theta (meditative state) and delta (sleep; where internal healing can occur).

The goal of sound meditation with Eliza is to provide a nourishing experience that supports your own self healing capabilities and overall well being. Together we practice and play through four functions of expressive arts of self-regulation, co-regulation, exploration and restoration.

Before you meet with me for this group online, please follow these guidelines:

• Be able to position your computer so we can see each other.

• Wearing headphones will provide an enhanced sound experience.

• Wear comfortable clothes

• Arrange a place to sit or lie down comfortably that is free of distractions.

• Have a glass of water and tissues nearby

• Be sure the lighting is not too bright

• Light a candle, or incense, or diffuse essential oils if you wish

In this Sound Meditation a variety of sounds and instruments may used such as binaural beats, shakers, chimes, drums, crystal and Tibetan singing bowls.

For Your Information:

As a general rule, sound meditation in a group context is very safe, as instruments are usually played off the body. The one main exception is for people with sound induced epilepsy (which is very rare), and for people experiencing acute mental health conditions. There are a number of other precautions listed below – please indicate if any of these apply to you so I can advise if the sound healing experience is suitable, or

can be modified.
